Festival Kick-Off Party (Friday night):
Kicking off the official start of the Northern Indiana Fat and Skinny Tire Fest has become the highlight of the weekend for many. This "brew" ha ha starts with the all-size-tires Critical Mass ride. The exciting "Take over the Road" ride starts at Trailhouse in the Village at Winona at 6pm and finishes at Mad Anthony's Lake City Taphouse in Downtown Warsaw, where the fun really begins. At approximately 7pm, the high-flying BMX stunt show will get everyone pumped up and ready for the Video party and killer prize raffle at 8pm inside the Taphouse.
Kosciusko Countryside Tours (Saturday morning):
Continuing the popularity of the 2008 South route with its multiple lengths (21/42/68 mile) IBC Funding Ride. The South route will take participants throughout the varying, hilly terrain and farmland of Kosciusko and Whitley counties. This year's sag stop at the locally acclaimed Blue Lion Coffee House features so much style and hospitality, you'll consider forgetting the rest of the ride. Great food and drinks will be included and even more will be available after the ride, thanks to the festival setting. For those doing the 21 or 42 mile ride, stick around for the Historical Winona Tour. The 3 mile leisurely cruise hosted by Billy Sunday Museum Curator, Bill Firstenberger, will be a ride you history buffs don't want to miss. This tour is free to those participating in the Countryside Tour. DINO Series MTB Race (Saturday afternoon):
The main state series for mountain bike racing will visit the Winona Lake trails once again this year. Last year's event was one of the highest attended race in the series 15+ year history partly due to the rave reviews our local trails continue to receive. Multiple talent levels will race 1-4 laps on the trails throughout the old Boy's Club land. Online Registration Now Available. Click Here
Circuit Road Race (Saturday afternoon):
We are pleased to announce the return of the Circuit Road Race to the festival schedule. On Saturday, May 2nd we'll offer several classes of racing. Racers will complete several laps (depending on skill level) of the circuit which will take them south of Winona Lake. The route this year will provide some surprising challenges for all riders. Historical Village Tours (Saturday):
Guided tours throughout the Winona Lake Village area will take participants by local homes and sites of interest which have led to the history and stories that make up the interesting past of Winona Lake. For more information on the History of Winona Lake. Click Here
BMX Stunt Show (Friday night and Saturday afternoon):
Experience gravity-defying tricks you normally would see on the ESPN XGames, Friday night before the Fest Video Kick off Party at Mad Anthony's Lake City Taphouse, and then right here on the streets of Winona Lake in the Village on Saturday afternoon.
Village Road Criterium (Sunday morning and afternoon):
A timed road race (criterium) will take participants on a 1/2 mile lap around the island in the Winona Lake Village. Support from the island residents and community is second to none, as fans line the streets of the village to catch the action. Length of time and lap quantities will depend on skill levels of the participants. Experience 30+ mph racing, while riders will try to stay near the front of the pack till the end for an extremely exciting finish. Online Registration. Click Here for flyer .
Orthopaedic Cup Celebrity Cruiser Race (Sunday afternoon):
This fun event will match local celebrities and company executives against each other for a team relay around the island on a fat-tired beach cruiser. The winner gets their name forever engraved on the Orthopaedic Cup.
Kids Activities and Road Race (Saturday and Sunday afternoon):
We don't let the big kids have all the fun. These popular events are designed to bring out the budding bike riders and racers and give them an opportunity to increase their safe riding skills and of course strut their stuff in front of the big crowd. On Saturday afternoon we offer multiple activities for the youngsters:
Safety Skills Bike Rodeo: A must for all the little ones on two wheels. Let us guide them in providing confident, safe riding habits. (Ages 12 & under recommended)
Tire Toss: Just like it sounds, but not as easy. See if you can be a ringer with multiple sizes of tires. (Ages 12 & under)
Paperboy: This one's gonna make you earn your money ('eh, we mean prizes). Can you get the newspaper through the hoop from multiple distances while riding your bike? (Ages 12 & under)
Wild Ride Bike Art: Customize your Ride, we will be providing all the necessities to decorate your bike (Ages 10 & under)
Wild Ride Bike Art Parade: It's show time! Cruise on your Wild Ride and impress the judges
TREK Tricycle Races: Gather your siblings and friends and challenge them to the slalom course. Be the first to cross the line and earn bragging rights for the year. Tricycles will be provided by TREK and Trailhouse. (Ages 6 & under)
On Sunday, the kids focus for the day is the big race. Get 'em pumped at lunch and then let 'em rip for 1 lap on the big kids criterium course. Age categories are broken down by 4 through 6, 7 through 9, and 10 through 12. All kids must be able to ride on two wheels. No training wheels please. Helmets are required.
